The brave Protektrs are taught from earliest training to deal with any Challenge. Since Challenges come in all sorts of forms - physical attack, verbal argument, mental challenge - the Protektr has to be ready for anything! They spend a life-time learning and practicing alternative methods to Challenge resolution.

Their goal is to protect. And to make their task even more difficult, they must do so without injury to others! 

The typical Protektr stance; it indicates "I do not wish to hurt you, but you will not harm those under my protection."

Strategic importance: High CR - equal to three other Questrs! - plus the ability to Reroll a CR Roll make the Protektr an important member of any Quad.

It is true that you might be able to gain the CR advantage through a Magikr's Dragon's Breath Spell or other means, but you would still not have the Reroll ability without the Protektr in your Quad. You could also avoid Challenges (Conflicts) altogether by utilizing the Challenge avoidance effects of the Herblists' Soothing Modulation or HoneySuckle Perfume.

If you include the Protektr in your Quad, you will want to balance your Quad by letting your Protektr take care of Challenges (Conflicts) and your other Quad members handle the travel issues - Unstable Rockslides and the like.
