Petanque Secret!

Use the Rules!

Return to non-secret world

There are official rules to the game. Often some of the rules are overlooked for whatever reason. One such rule is the rule that says that you must start the end with the throwing circle around the position that the bouchon ended up on the last end (with certain rule modifiers). And if you are unable to do so, you must step back as is necessary in a direct line with the final position of the bouchon and the prior throwing circle.

The fact that many players during casual play overlook this important rule and just draw the circle wherever they want can be used to your advantage. Generally they do that to line up a more favorable line for tossing out the bouchon. They hope to gain an advantage by doing so and over time come to depend on their ability to do so.

But by simply requiring that they play by the rules you will deny them that advantage - and especially important advantage if they are playing on their home terrain and know all the slopes! And in the bargain you could well disconcert them enough to give yourself the advantage! That's right gain the advantage by playing by the rules!
