Petanque Secret!

Throwing Across a Slope

Return to the non-secret world.

You find your boules curving down the slope, yet other players are able to go across the slope in a straight line. How are they able to do that???

This can be a really frustrating situation. Somehow your boule has to defy gravity and travel across a slope without deviating. To counter the slope, try to gently curving your boule upslope. The boule will be trying to climb the slope while gravity is trying to push it down slope... resulting in a straight line across the slope! To accomplish this on a slope to the left, tilt your hand slightly to the right (palm facing slightly right) when releasing the boule. This would cause the boule to curve right on a flat surface, but on a slope it will tend to make the boule try to climb the slope resulting in a straight line across the slope. Do the opposite for a slope to the right.
