The sport of Petanque needs a National Petanque Convention, a place for players, coaches, physical education professionals, equipment manufacturers, recreation industry people, and FPUSA officials to meet and exchange ideas and plans for the future. But until that happens, here is an alternative for those that would like to improve their petanque game and make new friends (or meet with old friends!) with a similar interest in the sport of petanque.

I am currently exploring organizing a Petanque Camp at Camp Ocean Pines, in Cambria located on California's Central Coast. Cambria is a small artsy town beside the ocean favored by people living in the San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles megalopolis as a weekend retreat. There are strolling beaches nearby as well as the Paso Robles wine country with well over one hundred wineries to explore.

Though the final schedule is still to be determined, planned activities include; International Style Tireur (Shooting) Contest, Panache Tournament, Indoor Petanque tournament in the lounge, Roundtable Discussions on Petanque Strategy and Tactics, Shoulder Exercises Demonstration, Dealers' Tables, Workshops on Curving Pointing Throws, and Shooting for Carreaus, Establishing Petanque Leagues in Community Centers and Youth Programs... and much much more!

Petanque Camp is tentatively scheduled for May 2009.

A French Masters petanque player will be in attendance for private workshops and demonstrations (just which famous player is yet to be determined). So bring your camera!

The Dealer Tables will feature the very latest in petanque boules, equipment and supplies! So bring your charge cards!

Housing options will include; staying in one of the incredibly affordable cabins on site, or at one of the nearby hotels, or bed and breakfasts - a list to follow.
